My wife and her parents are Greek, and until I met her, I had never known anyone who is Greek. When we decided to fly out to see her parents in Greece so that I could meet them, I fell in love with them and the area. The famed Mykonos villas that you see on TV or in photos are even more amazing in person. It was during that first trip that I told my wife that we should look into owning our own place there, and then we could rent it out during the times that we are not there. Her parents told us that they would be willing to check on the property for us while we are away to take care of maintenance and to make sure everything was okay. Everything seemed to be falling in place for us in so many ways.
Prior to meeting my wife, I wondered so many times where the woman of my dreams was. My friends were all married, and I was struggling to get through more than a few dates with any one woman for a very long time. There was nothing wrong with the women that I was dating. The issue is that I just wasn’t clicking with any of them. It was frustrating. I wanted the marriage and the family that everyone else had in life. I was 39 years old, and I started to get concerned that I would end up being alone in life. Then, out of the blue, I met my future wife at one of my son’s school functions. She has a daughter. She and I clicked immediately, and we dated a year before we tied the knot.
My wife’s parents are amazing. I could not ask for better in-laws. For one month out of every summer, I send my wife, step-daughter, and son to Greece so that they can spend time with my wife’s parents. They stay in the villa that we purchased. I show up there for about a week out of every year because I can’t get away from work easily. However, I also fly my mother-in-law and father-in-law here to our country every year, and they here stay for about a month as well.
